In this project, we carried out the complete installation of a custom motorized chain conveyor (CDLR) for our client who works in the steel industry. We present here the elements of the installation of these conveyors.
In this project, our client needed a turnkey solution to transport steel coils from the outside to the inside of the factory. These coils arrive by truck, but a solution was needed to route them and straighten them to direct them to the appropriate location.
A tailor-made heavy-duty conveyor solution was put in place.
The Choice of Conveyors
Our client designs and manufactures metal components for the construction industry such as bridges and buildings. To achieve its production objectives, this company needs robust and quality equipment.
For this project, our client has to transport steel coils with a diameter varying between 50 to 70 inches and a weight ranging from 1000 to 30,000 pounds.
A custom-made long chain-driven roller conveyor was installed to accomplish the job, a 90-degree turntable, coil upender, control panel, and safety guards were installed.
Motorized Roller Conveyor
The CDLR conveyor is perfect for moving heavy loads. Thanks to its structural steel structure, it is strong enough for this heavy-duty industry.
To move such heavy steel coils, we installed rollers whose individual capacity reaches 5000lb of movement without impact.
Turntable with a Conveyor
To respect the workspace and position the coil towards the coil reverser, a turntable with conveyor that turns 90 degrees was installed to move the coil sideways towards the reverser.
Coil Upender
The customer supplied coil turner allows the steel coil to position itself vertically so that the gripper can pick it up and move it to the next workstation.
Safety Devices
With moving such large pieces of steel on the CDLR conveyor, it was essential to add protective guards to prevent accidents and protect teams.
Control Panel
In addition to the installed equipment, a control panel was installed so that employees could monitor the progress and accumulation of steel coils on the conveyor.
